Samiuela at National Gallery
Earlier this year I had a change to meet with Sam again, originally from Tonga, now living in Helsinki, Finland. He was one of my models for the opening exhibition of Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art in 1998. I was invited then to be one of 9 artists to have an exhibition at the opening. My theme was around people living and working in Finland with emigration background. This year this painting, which is now in the collection of Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, was put on display as part of a permanent exhibition at the National Gallery of Finland. We went to check it out together, great honour and fun occasion in this amazing moment in time.
